In a partnership, we designed a boutique hotel located off of the High Line Park in New York City. Principles and patterns of biophilia were integral to the design and my personal learning experience. Inspiration for the design was drawn from the hotel’s second story connection onto the High Line and the environment surrounding the building. An emphasis on natural materials manifests the boutique hotel to become an oasis that takes a step back from the industrialized city.

CONCEPT
Inspired by the form, shape and materiality of sedimentary rock formations, this approachable, communal space is perfect to gather at with friends. High energy, abstract forms emulate natural rocks on the ceiling planes. These forms take advantage of the open concept environment by expanding and contracting the ceiling to create distinct variation and repetition. The hotel embodies the grand atmosphere of NYC, connecting people through group environments, like a mutilipurpose activity room, and community oriented technology, like the virtual board. Guests are encouraged to add their mark on the hotel through an interactive virtual board that can be seen from both floors of the lobby.
